Transcending Boundaries: Spiritual Abstraction 1996-2007

In 1996, spiritual abstraction became a gateway to explore the depths of the human experience, intertwining elements of the divine, scientific inquiry, and the influence of great artists. Inspired by the visionary works of Roberto Matta, Wilfredo Lam, and Fernando de Szyszlo, biblical spirituality, and scientific morphology, I reflected on the harmonious fusion of these diverse influences.

Like Roberto Matta, I aimed to delve into the realm of the subconscious, capturing spirituality's ethereal and intangible aspects. Matta's surrealistic style, fluid forms, and dreamlike landscapes, helped guide my brush to create an otherworldly composition transcending reality's confine. Within this transcendent realm, I found space to explore the profound connection between spirituality and art.

Wilfredo Lam's influence manifests in my artwork through exploring cultural and symbolic elements. Drawing from his Afro-Cuban roots, I incorporate abstract figures and shapes that echo the spiritual symbolism found in ancient traditions. These symbols, often layered and intertwined, serve as a visual language that speaks to the universal human experience and the interconnectedness of all beings.

Furthermore, the geometric abstractions of Fernando de Szyszlo inspired me to explore the intersection of art and science. Like Szyszlo, I sought to integrate scientific morphology into my compositions, using lines, shapes, and patterns to represent the underlying structures and rhythms of the natural world. This exploration of the form allowed me to weave together spirituality and scientific inquiry, bridging seemingly disparate realms and inviting viewers to contemplate the inherent unity of all creation.

Biblical spirituality was also an anchor, infusing my artwork with themes of transcendence, transformation, and the search for meaning. The narratives and symbolism in biblical texts inspired me to delve into the mysteries of the divine, inviting viewers to embark on their own spiritual journeys of introspection and contemplation.

In this convergence of influences, my paintings became a visual testament to the multifaceted nature of spirituality. It is a language that transcends cultural boundaries and connects us to something greater than ourselves. Through the interplay of abstraction, symbolism, and scientific inquiry, I strived to create a space where viewers can embark on a transformative experience, expanding their perception of reality and embracing the interconnectedness of all things.
